I have always had an interest in fashion and costume, and love mixing the two together for exciting creations, or retro inspired designs. I studied Fashion at West Cheshire College for a year before completing a BA(hons) in Costume Design with Textiles at Yorkshire Coast College.
After graduating, I received Textile Student of the Year award for Hull University, and won 1st place in the annual art exhibition held at the Royal College of Physicians, London, judged by infamous art critic Brian Sewell, for my mythical sea dress. My work was also shown at the Clothes Show Live for 3 consecutive years. Over the years I have worked on productions such as Riverdance, I, Keano, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Beauty and the Beast.
After university I travelled for a year around South America, New Zealand and South East Asia, and have returned full of inspiration and creativity. I have recently relocated to Brighton, but still travel to Chester for clients.
Currently I work freelance making 1950's inspired dresses, and designing and making wedding dresses for women that want something more original than what can be found in your average bridal boutique. Millinery is also an area I have started to explore, it has encouraged me to experiment with my creativity in new ways.
"Can costume be called art? The depth of creativity and originality that is in Louise O'Mahony's work demonstrates to me, that yes, it can." -Brian Sewell
